Early Orthodontic Treatment

Early Orthodontic Treatment

Many children can benefit from early orthodontic treatment. The first phase or Interceptive phase is recommended for patients that have a specific problem that needs to be addressed before full or comprehensive orthodontic treatment.

Benefits of interceptive treatment include:

  • Creating room for crowded, erupting permanent teeth
  • Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
  • Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
  • Preserving space for unerupted teeth
  • Reducing the need for permanent tooth removal

Contact us for a complimentary examination to determine if your child could benefit from early orthodontic treatment.

Why is my dentist recommending an evaluation at age 7? What is interceptive orthodontic treatment?

Many issues dealing with spacing, crowding or problems with the eruption of the permanent teeth are evident at age 7. Generally, patients who are this age, have a combination of baby and permanent teeth. Many children will benefit from an early orthodontic assessment. The majority of children that we see do not start treatment at age 7 and are placed into our growth and development program. We see these patients on a regular basis (every 6-12 months) until all of their permanent teeth have erupted.

Some children can benefit from early interceptive treatment. The goals of early treatment are generally defined and can be treated in a year or less. There is no charge for an initial exam. Please call or chat with our office today so that we can schedule your child for an early orthodontic evaluation.
